Start a Business Support Service

Owning a business is a commendable and worthwhile endeavor. However, it can be a difficult and confusing process for someone entering the arena of business for the first time. Where do the business owners go for guidance and support? Perhaps you could provide a service to them providing the much needed guidance and business support – allowing you to make money and escape the pressures of the employment world.

Your business support service can offer a variety of services, from education to financial organization.

Education
This is an area that is lacking in almost every start up business. When people decide to go into business, they may think of products or services they can offer; however, they rarely consider business as a process within itself that must be learned and understood before being able to be successful. There are certain steps that must be followed and aspects that must be evaluated.

One area of education that may be offered in your business support service is legal requirements and considerations for businesses of all shapes and sizes. There are certain ways of structuring a business, that are not necessarily common knowledge, which can provide more stability and protection to the owner. For example, deciding to form a sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, Limited Liability Company, or Limited Partnership is a major decision in a business. Other legal issues, such as discrimination and sexual harassment, should be areas of concern for business owners as well.

On the same token, financial education is another area that may be addressed. Tax implications for the above-referenced entities and filing requirements, as mind-numbing as they may be, are subjects a business owner needs to understand.

How to run a successful business is another education topic. While this could focus on minimizing cost, keeping employees happy, or satisfying customers there are many aspects of success that businesses need to understand and you can offer to them.

Organization

This is another area you could address in your business support service. Organization is an aspect many people do not have naturally. Therefore, there may be a market for a business consultant to come in and organize an office or office procedures in order to ensure efficiency and productivity.

Be it physical organization, such as files or office layout, or procedural organization, like where to go to request vacation time, having certain systems in place make an office more professional and effective.

Financial organization is an area you may want to offer assistance in. Business owners, small business owners in particular, may not have a clue about finances or how to run a financially successful workplace. In your business support service, you can evaluate businesses, pinpoint financial drains, and reorganize to provide stability and growth. Often, an outside analysis is necessary to ensure adequate understanding and realistic perceptions of the financial standings of a company. Over staffing, unnecessary expenditures, and inadequate management may not be apparent as being a problem in an organization; for this reason, you may need to step in and offer guidance.

Other options
In addition to education and organization, there are a plethora of other activities you could assist businesses in. You may want to provide a service for delivering lunch to local businesses, cleaning offices, or a courier service. A “business support service” may consist of many options and opportunities to make businesses more efficient and successful, or could be as simple as creating a more pleasant environment for employees. If you have a background in massage, you could offer a service to businesses to provide massages to their employees once a week. To build a successful business offering support to various companies, you must be innovative, find what is lacking, and fill that need.
